This Namibia lodge has exclusive use of about 600 000 acres of wild, desolate and stunningly beautiful Skeleton Coast Park. The area has soaring sand dunes, towering canyons, mountains, salt pans, seal colonies and shipwrecks.
Freshwater springs permeate the barren sands and create a rare oasis in the desert, which sustains pockets of wildlife. Springbok, Gemsbok, rare Desert Elephant, Brown Hyena, Jackal, Ostrich, Porcupine, Mountain Zebra and even Giraffe and occasionally Lion and Cheetah are seen.
Himba people are the nomadic inhabitants of the region living just outside the park, and it is a rare pleasure to be able to interact with these beautiful people and learn about their unique culture.
The Benguela current brings plankton rich waters from the Antarctic and cool water to this Atlantic coastline. The cool ocean breeze meets the warm desert air and moderates the temperature so that even the summers are mild. Nearly every morning mists cover the coastal belt, bringing life-sustaining moisture to the desert's flora and fauna.
