Vogelstrausskluft Lodge has a very special feature in that it owns 50km (31 miles) of pristine river frontage on the upper part of the Fish River Canyon, Namibia. The lodge is uniquely positioned for exploring the 2nd largest canyon in the world and seeing the many interesting attractions in the area.
The 26 000 hectare property displays the many facets of the Kalaharis beauty. Tours are offered to all parts of the farm so guests can see the red sand dunes, Canyon rim and ancient river valley for themselves.
Vogelstrausskluft has very special access to the base of the Fish River Canyon which is uniquely private and easily undertaken by young and old alike, offering a truly memorable experience.
The lodge is also in an excellent position to see southern Namibia and its attractions including Luderitz, Aus and its desert horses, the ghost town of Kolmannskoppe, Giants playground and the Kokerboom forest amongst other interesting places.
Many animals have been restocked on the farm, and others have started to regenerate in this protected environment. The wildlife is varied and animals often seen are Blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Ostrich and various antelope species such as Oryx, Kudu, and Duiker. Rooikat or Caracal and Leopard are also present but not often seen.
How to reach Vogelstrausskluft Lodge:
Transfers: Transfers can be arranged from airports and towns in the vicinity or from further afield, these can be done by vehicle or by air, examples are given below:
Keetmanshoop: by car 1 hour Luderitz: by car 3 hours, by air 30 minutes Windhoek: by car 6 hours, by air 90 minutes Springbok: by car 6 hours, by air 3 hours Cape Town: by air 4 hours
Airstrip: The gravel landing strip is 900 metres long S26 57.866, E17 31.127 Bearing 04 / 22, No. 02 Elev. 870,0 metres NSL
Self-drive: From Springbok / Upington / Cape Town Follow the B1 highway until you reach Keetmanshoop. Before entering the town, turn left on to the B4 highway in the direction of Luderitz. Follow the road until you reach the left turnoff onto a gravel road number 463 which is 28km (17 miles) after Seeheim in the direction of Feldschuhhorn.
After 25km (15.5 miles) on the 463 road you will see Vogelstrausskluft on your left. There is a shortcut from Grnau, however this can only be used if the Lwen River is low on water. Please contact the lodge before attempting this route.
From Windhoek: Coming from Windhoek follow the B1 highway until you reach Keetmanshoop. After you leave the town, change on to the B4 highway in the direction of Lderitz. Follow the road until you reach the left turnoff onto a gravel road number 463 which is 28km (17 miles) after Seeheim in the direction of Feldschuhhorn. After 25km (15.5 miles) on the 463 road you will see Vogelstrausskluft on your left.
