Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is located approximately 100 km west of the small town of Khorixas and is accessible along the district road C39. The resurrected farmstead now forms the anchor fronting onto a thriving waterhole, and the tented guest units with en-suite bathrooms have raised on decks for an enhanced view. This model of eco-sensitive Namibia lodging provides an authentic, safe and down-to-earth experience for small groups, families and independent travelers to Etosha and is designed by an award winning Namibian environmental architect.
Day 8: Okaukuejo Rest Camp, Etosha National Park, NamibiaThe most popular resort in Etosha, and also the oldest - it has been in existence since the early fifties - is Okaukuejo, characterized by its thatched bungalows. Okaukuejo’s focal point is the floodlit waterhole where visitors gather at night to watch game, including Black Rhino, Elephant, Giraffe and Lion, come to drink.
The resort has a newly built restaurant, bar and shop complex. Okaukeujo is the main administrative centre of the park, and houses the Etosha Ecological Institute, from where research and the conservation management are conducted.
Day 9: Okonjima Main Camp, Otjiwarongo, NamibiaApart from the lodge, there is also an education and research centre on the property, as well as rehabilitation camps for the various animals. The lodge has en-suite double rooms and a secluded swimming pool surrounded by beautiful gardens where a variety of birds and animals may be encountered.
Keep an eye out for the warthog which is a regular visitor to the lodge grounds. Okonjima lodge is the best place in Namibia (and probably the world) to view and learn about the conservation of Cheetah and Leopard and is a must on any Namibian itinerary.
Days 10 & 11: Kalahari Bush Breaks, Gobabis, NamibiaThe Kalahari Desert is a vast sandveld region which extends over central and western Botswana into eastern Namibia and the Northern Cape. Although generally described as a desert, the typical Kalahari landscape is surprisingly well-vegetated.
In spring its undulating sandy plains become a flowering wilderness; after midsummer rains they become covered in tall green grass and leafy trees, such as shepherd's tree (Boscia Albitrunca), camelthorn (Acacia Erioloba), yellowwood (Terminalia Sericea) and a vast variety of shrubs.
