Escape on an exclusive self-drive holiday in Namibia on this exciting 11 day adventure. From private sundowner drives exploring the marble mountains of Sossusvlei, quad-biking over desert dunes and plains and climbing the world's largest sand dunes, to treking the largest Elephant in Africa on safaris in Etosha National Park. Spend your days totally at leisure, enjoying your Namibian self drive holiday at your own pace.

Day 1 – 3: Namib Naukluft Lodge, Sossusvlei, Namibia

Arrive in Windhoek and continue southwards towards the Sossusvlei area following the C26. You could either drive to Solitaire via Gamsberg Pass, or via the Spreetshoogte or Remhoogte Pass. (Please consult your map). Continue past solitaire till you see the sign indicating the turn-off to the Namib Naukluft Lodge on your right hand side.

The best spot to experience the living desert is on the 13,000 ha farm, which was pronounced as a private nature reserve in 1999 and hosts the upmarket Namib Naukluft Lodge. Stunning sceneries invite you to nature drives and walks. Enjoy your stay in unexpected comfort and friendly hospitality. The Lodge offers a variety of activities and we recommend a stay of two to three full days. Enjoy the ever-changing pastel colours of the beautiful Pro-Namib.

Use the morning hours for an easy climb to the top of one of the adjacent granite hills or a walk in the vicinity. Explore the diverse flora and fauna, where the trees grow seemingly out of the stones. Relax at the crystal clear swimming pool during the heat of the day. In the late afternoon you may join a stunning sundowner drive to the marble mountains on the farm. Listen to the evening sound of the barking gecko – a concert never to be forgotten. The clear night sky invites you to an unreal stargazing experience.

Try to spot the Milky Way and the Southern Cross! The friendly staff at the lodge will make your stay unforgettable. Optionally enjoy an early morning Sossusvlei excursion to the spectacular dunes area. Here you will be able to climb some of the highest dunes in the world, some of which measures up to 325 m from its base. Namib Naukluft Lodge offers tastefully furnished rooms with en-suite facilities and a private, spacious patio with a striking view. Excellent traditional meals are served in the restaurant, on the adjacent verandah or in the boma from the open fire. The lounge and pool area offer a relaxed atmosphere after an active day in the desert.

    Day 4 & 5: Intermezzo, Swakopmund, Namibia

Depart for Swakopmund along the C19 to Solitaire and further along the C14 from there to WalvisBay. Arrive in Swakopmund in the early afternoon. Swakopmund, Namibia’s seaside resort, resembles a small Bavarian village nestled between the desert and the sea. You will be able to spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure taking a stroll along the beach, roam the streets or enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants with their mouth watering cuisine. Intermezzo is a friendly bed & breakfast accommodation with en-suite bedrooms, TV & reading lounge, a quiet garden and a secure parking area.

All the rooms are non-smoking. Your hosts offer a delicious breakfast buffet, the beach is only a 2 minutes walk away and the Swakopmund centre takes a 15 minutes stroll. Spend your days totally at leisure next to the beach, or optionally participate in some of the many activities available through the numerous operators in and around Swakopmund. Alternatively also visit the Snake Park, Aquarium or the Crystal Gallery. Namibia is a country filled with untouched landscapes, with a variety of Swakopmund adventure activities to keep you thrilled. Go Sand-boarding, quad biking, parasailing, sea kayaking, Horse riding, Camel Rides or on Dolphin Cruises.

Days 6 – 8: Okaukuejo Resort, Etosha National Park, Namibia

Leave Swakopmund and travel on the B1 via Usakos to Karibib. Turn left onto the C33 at Karibib to Omaruru and further towards Otjiwarongo. From here follow the C38 further northwards via Outjo towards the famous Etosha National Park in Namibia. Enter the Park at the Anderson (Okaukuejo) Gate. The most popular resort and also the oldest in the Etosha National Park – it has been in existence since the early fifties – is Okaukuejo, characterized by its thatched bungalows.

Okaukuejo’s focal point is the floodlit waterhole where visitors gather at night to watch game, including Black Rhino, Elephant, Giraffe and Lion, come to drink. The resort has a newly built restaurant, bar and shop complex. Okaukeujo is the main administrative centre of the park, and houses the Etosha Ecological Institute, from where research and the conservation management are conducted.

Have two relaxed days available to enjoy game drives through the Etosha National Park. The Etosha National Park, consisting of 22 270 km of saline desert, savannah and woodlands, is one of the largest parks in Africa. Its definitive feature is The Etosha Pan, a vast, shallow depression of approximately 5 000 km. Of the 114 mammal species found in the park, several are rare and endangered, such as black rhino and black-faced impala.

The latter is endemic to North-western Namibia and South-western Angola. Etosha’s current population of approximately 300 black rhinos represents one of the few growing populations in the world. Etosha has the largest Elephants in Africa, the tallest ones measuring up to 4 m at the shoulder. Their tusks, on the other hand, are relatively small, due to genetic defects and mineral deficiencies in their diet. Please note that once out of the Rest Camp enclosures, visitors may vacate their vehicles only at designated points.

Days 9 – 11: Okonjima Main Camp, Okonjima, Namibia

Leave the Etosha National Park and follow the C38 once again back to Outjo and Otjiwarongo. Head further South towards Windhoek and take the gravel turn-off to the right, just after the sign “Okahandja 130 km”. At Okonjima, home of the Africat Foundation, guests are given a first hand glimpse of the work done by the Foundation, and will see Cheetah, Leopard and Lion. These carnivores are researched and rehabilitated by AfriCat, as well as other game species introduced into this area.

Okonjima offers en-suite double rooms at the main camp. Activities include viewing and photographing big cats, guided and self guided trails, a unique way of game watching from a nocturnal hide and several bird-watching hides. Okonjima will leave you with unforgettable impressions and the welcoming staff will keep you busy from dawn till dusk. On your final day, leave Okonjima and follow the B1 via Okahandja to Windhoek. Continue to the Windhoek International Airport to be there in time for your outbound flight.
