Choose Your Namibia Safari Experience.

The two best ways to experience Namibia are by driving or flying, which is of course dictated by your budget and how much time you have.

Self-drive touring is good if you have the time, where as a fly-in safari allows you to enjoy more of the variation of the country as you fly from lodge to lodge.
Namibia Self Drive Tours: Get to see the country in detail. If you are travelling on a budget, this is the best way to do it. Plus you might want do a couple of side detours – but only if you are camping. If you have booked accommodations along the way, on a set itinerary, you may not have as much time to waste.

If camping is your interest – you can get a rental vehicle with all the camping gear. You get to choose a vehicle according to where you are going and these are: normal car, or, 4 x 4 for the fully rugged adventurer amongst you.

Essentially, you get a map and drive yourself between your selected destinations. Be sure to speak to your Siyabona consultant regarding distances and times along the routes you will be travelling between destinations.

Once you have elected to self-drive, you have a number of options regarding your choice of vehicle.

  • Sedan
  • 4 x 4 Vehicle
  • Camper

Sedans and 4 x 4 vehicles can be rented WITH or WITHOUT camping gear.

These are just suggestions. Obviously, you might want to go to other places. You choose where you want to go to, and in consultation with a Siyabona agent, you will finally have your own tailor-made camping safari plotted out to meet your time and budget allowance.

Much of Namibia is traversable with a normal sedan. However there are places you will only reach with a 4x4 – so be sure to check whether the establishments you want to get to are reachable.

For example – if you want to explore Caprivi Strip or adventure up into Serra Cafema – a 4 x 4 is your only option.
Also, if you are travelling into Sossusvlei, you can get there by car, but you will be needing a tour-guide to drive you into the dunes.

    Camping Fanatics:

If you have rented a vehicle with all the camping gear – you will obviously be sorted. However, if you are bringing your own vehicle, you will want to be sure you that you have sorted yourself out. The one maxim is: “If you don’t have it with you – there is probably nowhere you can get it”. Being out in the middle of nowhere and all.

    Moving Around:

As you have an itinerary, and have had reservations been made for you at the various establishments along your route, the thing to remember is that you have to get to your destination within a reasonable time.

An hour or two late is okay. A day late is when they start sending someone out to look for you – just in case you may have broken down. So if you think you are going to be later than you should – phone ahead and let the lodge know.
(Arriving 2 days late might find that your accommodation has expired and been booked out to another party… in which case no one is liable for your
    oversight).
